About Tradition Border

Tradition Border earned its place here for one reason: it is a straight answer to border design, and straight answers are rarer in this pattern catalogue than you would think. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence. The save count is still small at 16, so read this as our opinion and not a consensus.

If you want one use for it, take cushion cover: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. Check whether the design is sold as a repeat with matching ends. A border that does not join cleanly needs a corner motif to hide the seam. One thing we always do and you should too: open the preview full size. A thumbnail hides exactly the detail that decides whether border design is really what you are getting.

It answers to cutwork border design, embroidery border, embroidery corner and embroidery designs, and that spread of wording is worth noting: a file tagged this consistently usually behaves the way the preview suggests. We filed it under Border Embroidery Designs for the obvious reason, and the shelf is small enough to read end to end. Related wording on the shelf: borders. Same shelf, different phrasing, and the sort options above work across all of it.

How to use this pattern

  1. Download the files from Creative Fabrica and unzip them into one folder.
  2. Print the pattern sheets at 100% — no scaling, no «fit to page» — and check the test square with a ruler before you cut anything.
  3. Tape the sheets together on the printed match marks, then cut the pieces out and keep the instruction sheet next to your machine.
  4. Sew a quick version in cheap fabric first if the shape is new to you; the second one is always the one you keep.
