Excavator earned its place here for one reason: it is a straight answer to boy's embroidery, and straight answers are rarer in this pattern catalogue than you would think. Scrub tops and uniforms are polyester. Use polyester thread too, or the bleach wash fades the design before the garment. How to use this pattern

- Print the pattern sheets at 100% — no scaling, no «fit to page» — and check the test square with a ruler before you cut anything.
- Tape the sheets together on the printed match marks, then cut the pieces out and keep the instruction sheet next to your machine.
- Sew a quick version in cheap fabric first if the shape is new to you; the second one is always the one you keep.
